Margaret Elizabeth Holman

Margaret Holman, 88, of Galena, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018.  Loving wife of the late John, beloved mother of Ann, (Dan) Sertle, devoted grandmother of Kelli (Chris) Jackson and Jesse Sertle, great grandmother to Dylan and Skylar, fond sister of Josie (Mike) Greibe, Galena,  and Michael Owens, Ireland, cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother in laws, Ken (Pat) Holman, Galena, and Jim (Wendy) Holman, Galena.  Margaret was one of seven children, her brothers John, Luke, Paddy and sister Mary are all deceased.    Margaret was born in Reckendrick, Ireland in 1930, she came to Chicago when she was in her early 20's.  There she met John and the two were married.  They moved to Galena to be near John's family and to raise their only daughter, Ann. Margaret had many jobs throughout her lifetime, she worked for over 15 years at Eaton, as well as waitressing, and most recently she was working as a caregiver.  Margaret enjoyed shopping, garage sales, flea markets, gardening, flowers and was an animal lover who would care for the stray cats in her neighborhood.  She also enjoyed traveling and did so often, especially traveling back to her beloved Ireland, she was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.  Margaret adored her grandchildren and spent a lot of time with them, always attending their sport games and taking them traveling as well.  She would also open her home for months at a time to her nieces and nephews who would come to America from Ireland for an extend stay. Margaret will be missed by all who knew her. The Family would like to thank the staff of the Galena Assisted Living and Nursing Home for all their dedication and great care that they took of Margaret over the past 4 years.
