Gerry was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed the company of her family and church friends.  She and Wilbur lived most of their married lives in the south suburban Chicago area where Gerry held a number of jobs including school bus driver, bank clerk, retail associate and office bookkeeper. She moved to Galena in the fall of 2010 and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

    She is survived by four children: Janet (Bruce) Etzel of Galena; Debra (Jeremy) Nelson of Valparaiso, IN; David (Linda) Gronewold of Denton, TX; Gerald (Linda) Gronewold of Galena; grandchildren Bryan (Chloe) Etzel, Brandon (Robin) Etzel, Christopher (Cheena) Etzel, Colin Etzel; Keila Gronewold, Nicholas (Angela) Gronewold; William Tyler; Zachary, Adam, Christian Gronewold; and great-grandchildren Cameron Liter, Max Etzel and Lily Etzel.

    Funeral services were held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 29 with Rev. Dr. Frederick Baltz officiating.  Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Buckley, IL.

    The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers from the Hospice of Dubuque for the loving care shown to our mother over the past 15 months.
